Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS - Internal Family Systems - is my main modality. Not to be confused with regular Family Therapy, it does have it's roots there.

After I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work, we were supposed to define ourselves, and I would usually call myself eclectic, meaning I would draw from many teachings and theories, such as Psychodynamic, Client-Centered, CT, DBT, and including so-called alternative treatments.

When I found IFS in 2017 it all began to make sense to me, and it became a way to live my life. It helped me heal what I thought was dealt with. We often learn to cope and manage our feelings, and not how to live with them.

Over the years I learned many different techniques, and a lot about parenting, ADHD, attachment, adoption, military life, and also giftedness and neurodiversity. As a Social Worker, we believe that everyone is their own expert, and that is very aligned with IFS.

With IFS I can also help you be your own healer and to live with your thoughts and feelings instead of fighting with them. IFS is easy to read up on, and needs to be experienced to be understood.

Here the official description from from the Internal Family Systems Institute website www.ifs-institute.com

What is Internal Family Systems?

This is taken from the offical IFS Institute website.

Transformative psychotherapy… and empowering paradigm.

Internal Family Systems is a powerfully transformative, evidence-based model of psychotherapy. We believe the mind is naturally multiple and that is a good thing.  Our inner parts contain valuable qualities and our core Self knows how to heal, allowing us to become integrated and whole. In IFS all parts are welcome.

IFS is a movement. A new, empowering paradigm for understanding and harmonizing the mind and, thereby, larger human systems. One that can help people heal and helps the world become a more compassionate place.

IFS Institute welcomes all people of any age, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, ability, language or cultural background into the Internal Family Systems community. You are welcome here, and all of your parts are welcome too.

The mission of IFS Institute is to bring more Self leadership to the world.
